Abstract

The preparation of organo-bentonite form natural bentonite was conducted by microwave irradiation method. The natural and organo-bentonite were used to remove chloroform from aqueous solution. The adsorption experiments were conducted in static mode at three different temperatures (30, 40, and 50oC). The temperature dependent forms of Langmuir and Freundlich were used to correlate the adsorption experimental data. Langmuir equation correlates the experimental data well and gave consistent and reasonable values of the fitted parameters. The fitted parameters of Langmuir model for bentonite are:qo = 89.5 mg/g, δ = 0.910 x 10-2K-1, KLo = 0.59 L/mg, E = -10.8 kJ/mol. For organo-bentonite the fitted values are qo = 149.8 mg/g, δ = 0.895 x 10-2 K-1, KLo = 0.77 L/mg, E = -11.6 kJ/mol. © Research India Publications.
