Abstract

Inspired by the Bell's experiment for detecting metals using induction balance technique we have conducted simple experiments to investigate the sensitivity of our induction balance coils arrangement in detecting metals. The main purpose of this work is to provide students with a simple experiment for enhancing their comprehension on the topics of electromagnetism, especially on electromagnetic induction in a coil due to the changes of magnetic flux produced by other coil driven by an alternating current source. It was found out that the simple experiment can perform as expected. Detail experiment will be presented, but no attempt will be made to present a rigorous analysis on the uncertainties in the result of the experiment. © 2015 AIP Publishing LLC.
