As viral crises spread around the globe, the demand for medical textile products have skyrocketed, resulting in significant growth of the waste stream. Growing public awareness and social responsibilities about environmental issues have led medical textile industries to manufacture environmentally benign, sustainable and reusable products, one of which is by exploiting natural resources. However, the disposal rate of medical textiles is currently much higher than its reusing rate. Therefore, it is imperative to identify the current situation with particular emphasis on the environmental impact and health hazards of medical textile waste, and to provide a relevant review of the systematic strategies to administer the waste management approaches, with the aims to minimize negative impact of the waste and improve the topical conditions. This book chapter also intends to provide broad insight on various available waste management options, and critically assess their environmental and health impact. © 2022 Elsevier Ltd.
