The Chinese in Indonesia have become the subject of numerous research studies. Most of these studies investigate the political, economic and social aspects of the Chinese population (Giblin, 2003; Hoon, 2006, 2008; Wibowo, 1999; Coppel, 2012; Mahfud, 2013; Sai and Hoon, 2013). In addition, Dawis (2008) studied the education of Chinese Indonesians during the post-Suharto era, Oetomo (1987) explored the language and identity of the Chinese in the town of Pasuruan during the Suharto administration, and Kuntjara (2009) specifically examined the hybrid language and culture of four Chinese Indonesian women in Surabaya. © 2018 Taylor & Francis.
