Abstract

Polymer-based nanocomposites have potential applications as alternative super-adsorbents for the removal of hazardous substances from water and wastewater. In general, most of the adsorption studies still focus on a single-component system using a synthetic solution as the representative of wastewater. Comprehensive discussions about the use of various adsorption isotherms to represent the adsorption equilibria data are given in this chapter. Among the available models, perhaps Langmuir and Freundlich are still the most widely used equations to correlate the adsorption of hazardous substances onto polymer-based nanocomposites. To represent the adsorption kinetic, pseudo-first and pseudo-second-order equations are considered the most important models. © 2018 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
